Secondary storage

1. Optical Storage

   • in any method which data is written and read with laser.
   • CDs, DVDs and Blue Ray
   • cost effective and very portable
   • not very durable and has a limited capacity

2. magnetic storage

   • data is stored by magnetising the surface of flat, circular plates called platters
   • the platter rotate at very high speed
   • very cost effective due to having higher capacity than solid state.
   • not as durable due to moving parts reads/writes data slower in comparison to solid state

3. solid state storage

   • less cost effective in comparison to magnetic because it has smaller capacity
     • limited read/write span
   • uses magnetised disks and do not contain any moving parts
   • more durable with reading and writing data much faster tan magnetic storage
     • more energy efficient

4. non-volatile and volatile

   • volatile holds information temporarily
