  1. What is CSS?

    • CSS is a language that describes the style of an HTML document
      • CSS describes how HTML elements shold be displayed
    • Cascading Style Sheets(CSS)
    • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used to apply styles to a webpage (internal) or website (external).
  2. While HTML tells the browser what to display on a page, CSS tells the browser how to display it

  3. CSS rules:

    • You need a selector
    • You need a decloration block
  4. When using CSS there are properties that need to be able to alter.

    • Text:Font-family,Font-size,Colour,Alignment. Background colour
  5. CSS and HTML code requires that the American spelling of 'color' and 'center' are used. If you try to create CSS code using 'colour' or 'centre' you will encounter an error.

  6. How does CSS work?

    • The content of a page goes into an HTML file. And the appearance goes into a style sheet.
    • A statement does two things: it identifies the elements in an HTML document that it affects and it tells the browser how to draw these elements
    • In technical HTML terms, an element is anything marked up inside HTML tags.
    • The part of a statement which identifies page elements is called a selector. Selectors select page elements.
    • The part of a statement which tells a browser how selected elements should be drawn is called the declaration.
