Security Issues
data transmitted over a network can be vulnerable to eavesdropping. there are two techniques for this are sniffing and spoofing
- Sniffing, a packet sniffer will inspect all the data being tranmitted over a network, even if not intended for you. WIFI= vulnerable Mobile broadband= not vulnerable, Wired= difficult to connect to network without being noticed.
- spoofing, a computer pretends to be other computer to gain access to services such as private data. a key tool in denial of service attacks all kinds of connection and netowrk are vulnerable, but easier on wireless due to ease of access
security prevention methods. there are specialist tools and techniques designed to help protect networks from these types of attacks . these include firewall and encryption.
- Firewalls monitor traffic and block anything that appears to be dangerous. hardware firewalls protect the network. software firewalls protect individual devices. hardware firewalls are good for protecting any sorts of virus attacks.
- Encryption will turn data transmitted into a coded form that cannot be read. HTTPS uses encryption for transmitting data over the web security. VPN are also used to create an encrypted connection over the internet. this prevent data accessed through sniffing being read.
