Encryption best
Defintion
- Conversion of data using an algorithm into cypher text that cannot be easily understood by someone without the decryption key
Asymmetric Cryptography
- Uses two different but mathematically linked keys, one public and one private
- The public key can be shared with everyone, whereas the private key must be kept secret
- RSA is the most widely used asymmetric algorithm
Symmetric-key ciphers
- Use the same key, or secret, for encrypting and decrypting a message or file
- The most widely used symmetric-key cipher is AES
- Was created to protect government classified information
- Much faster than asymmetric encryption
Most cryptographic processes use a symmetric algorithm to efficiently encrypt data, but use an asymmetric algorithm to exchange the secret key
Examples
- RC4

- Twofish
- Blowfish
- RC2
