Mind map
Force

Map content
Force
- A push or pull
Newton
- The strength of force is measured in the SI unit called newtons.
Net Force
- The combination of all forces acting on an object
- Balanced Forces
- Equal forces acting on one object in opposite directions.
- Unbalanced Forces
- Can cause an object to start moving, stop moving, or change direction.
- Free Fall
- When the only force acting on an object is gravity.
Friction
- The force that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other.
- Static Friction
- The friction that acts on objects that are not moving.
- Sliding Friction
- Occurs when two solid surfaces slid over each other.
- Rolling Friction
- When an object rolls across a surface.
- Fluid Friction
- When a solid object moves through a fluid.
- Air Resistance
- Objects falling through air experience a type of fluid friction.
- Terminal Velocity
- The greatest velocity of a falling object reaches.
Gravity
- Is a force that pulls objects toward each other.
- Mass
- Is a measure of the amount of matter in an object. The more mass an object has, the greater its gravitational force.
- Weight
- The force of gravity on a person or object at the surface of a planet. Weight is a measure of the gravitational force exerted on an object.
- Universal Gravity
- States that the force of gravity acts between all objects in the universe. This means that any two objects in the universe, without exception, attract each other.
- Factors Affecting Gravity
- Two factors affect the gravitational attraction between objects: mass and distance. The gravitational force depends on the distance between the objects.
Projectile
- An object that is thrown.
Inertia
- Is the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion.
Momentum
- Is a characteristic of a moving object that is related to the mass and the velocity of the object.
- Law Of Conversation Of Momentum
- States that in the absence of outside forces, the total momentum of objects that interact does not change.
