GRAMMAR

1. Third conditional

   • Use
     • It is used to think about situations in the past that did not happen and imagine what results they would have had.
       • structure
         • If + past perfect, subject + would + have + verb in past participle
           • Example
             • WOULD
               • If I had remembered it was your birthay, I would have bought you a present.
             • MIGHT
               • If we had had time, we might have gone to the beach.
             • COULD
               • If I had saved my money, I could have gone on holiday.

2. Mixed conditional

   • use
     • refer to an unreal condition situated in the past and its probable result in the present. They express a situation that is contrary to reality both in the past and at the present time. in these mixed conditional sentences, the time frame refers to the past in the "if" statement and the present in the main clause
       • structured
         • past simple with a main sentence of the third conditional modal verb+have+past participle
           • Example
             • If I had worked harder at school, I would have a better job now.
             • I would have a better job now if I had worked harder at school.
             • If we had looked at the map we wouldn't be lost.

3. Perfect Modal

   • use
     • express possibility or probability.
       • Structure
         • Subject + modal verb + have + verb in past partciple + complement
           • Examples
             • The lights are off. They must have gone out.
             • I never see John and Claire together anymore. They must have separated.
             • Frank failed the exam. He can’t have been paying attention in class
