Computational Thinking

  1. Pattern Recognition

    • Good use of pattern recognition can save a lot of time when solving a problem If we spot that the same thing happens multiple times, we only need to solve it once, then apply the solution multiple times
  2. Algorithms

    • A Structured English algorithm uses short, structured sentences to express the instructions.
    • An algorithm is a procedure used for solving a problem or performing a computation. Algorithms act as an exact list of instructions that conduct specified actions step by step in either hardware- or software-based routines.
  3. Abstraction

    • Abstraction is the process of removing the unnecessary characteristics and details that we don’t need in order to concentrate on those we do. It gives a clearer idea of what we are trying to solve.
  4. Decomposition

    • It is important in problem solving, because trying to solve a large problem all at once is far more difficult than extracting lots of smaller problems and solving them one at a time
    • Decomposition is the act of taking a large problem and breaking it down into smaller problems
