Benefits
- Automatic Re-Calculation
- When data changes, formulas automatically recalculate
- Graphs and charts
- Quick way for the audience to visualize what you are saying -- numbers, trends, up or down
- Convincing -- proves a point, see and hear
- More interesting than just talk or print
- Quick way for the audience to visualize what you are saying -- numbers, trends, up or down
- Replication
- When you replicate (drag) a formula down a spread sheet, the cells will change depending on what row the formula is in. the feature is called a relative cell reference.
- GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out)
- Automatic Re-Calculation
Formulas
- A formula is an expression which calculates the value of a cell.
- For example, cell A3 below contains a formula which adds the value of cell A2 to the value of cell A1.
Formatting
- You can think of conditional formatting as automatic formatting that is triggered by conditions that you define. For example, you can use conditional formatting to automatically change the color of cells that contain values greater than or less certain values.
- When we format cells in Excel, we change the appearance of a number without changing the number itself. We can apply a number format (0.8, $0.80, 80%, etc) or other formatting (alignment, font, border, etc).
