   • Brains of the computer
   • Central processing unit
   • Responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a progran

2. FETCH, EXECUTE, DECODE CYCLE

   • Basic operational process of a computer
   • Retrieves a a program instruction from its memory
     • Determines what the instruction indicates
       • Carries out the instruction

3. FACTORS THAT EFFECT PERFORMANCE

   • Speed of the cpu
   • Amount of RAM
     • Random access memory
   • Bus type and speed
     • Everything runs along a bus,the speed of this effects the speed of the computer
   • Amount of cache memory
     • A memory in which high speed retrieval is possible
   • Number of cores
     • A core runs the FED cycle.
     • The more cores the more cycles can be run at once
   • Clock speed
