Computer Security
Encryption
- Keeps the code/ message private so other people can't see it.
- To encrypt a message you would need to use a cipher.
- To decrypt a message you need a key so you can solve the code/message.
- You would use encryption when sending a private message to someone so nobody else would know what it meant.
Firewall
- Prevents harmful data entering your computer.
- Used to help protect a computer network from intruders.
- Used when program is trying to connect to another network.
- If you don't have firewall any data packets from an not trustworthy program can harm your computer or put a virus on it.
- A firewall works by asking the user whether if she or he wants a data packet to be sent or whether the user wanted a data packet to be sent to them.
Anti-Virus Software
- Needs updating regularly to make sure that it knows the latest threats.
- Scans the computer periodically.
- Quarantines any programs or files which are harmful.
- Protects against malicious software.
- Anti-Virus Software needs to scan your computer periodically as it will check for any viruses on your computer, to make sure it is safe.
A tip for signing up/ logging in to websites is that to make sure to scan the website to see if it's trustworthy if it is not then consequences like them putting stuff on your social media that you don't want to be there will be posted.
When buying products online make sure that there is a https as it shows that it is a secure trustworthy website to buy on, if you buy something without it it will probably get your bank details and spend money with it.
To get a secure password it would need to be something that is very confidential to you but not something like Arsenal123 as it is simple if you were to want to iclude your favorite club and make it hard to solve it could perhaps look like ARSeNal1569 that is harder to solve. In additi9on, adding symbols, capital letters, small letters and numbers and mixing them will decrease he chances of the hacker solving your password.
When opening emails make sure to see who is is from as it can be harmful to your computer if you open it. Also when opening links make sure to scan the link to see if it is safe or not.
Malware
- Zombie Virus
- The Zombie Virus takes over your computer.
- Worm
- A computer worm is a standard malware computer program that replicates it self in order to spread to other computers.
- Zombie Virus
Phishing is where a virus will ask for you account details and impersonate to be a company or bank. For example, if you had a bank account with Barcaly and you got an email saying put your account details here for verification you shouldn't do that as banks won't ask for your details. Therefore it is a virus.
