Types of programming language
3 Paradigms
- Imperitive
- Give orders to a computer to complete a task
- Procedural / Object Oriented Programming
- Give orders to a computer to complete a task
- Declaritive
- The user tells the computer the qualities the solution should have
- Logic/Functional
- Logic
- Facts and rules define the problem
- Which are used to solve the problem
- Facts and rules define the problem
- Functional
- A description of the solution is built up through a collection of functions.
- Examples include Haskell and ML
- A description of the solution is built up through a collection of functions.
- Logic
- Imperitive
Procedural programming
- 3 main constructs
- Sequence
- Selection
- Iteration
- Examples include the C family, or Python
- Object-Oriented-Programming
- Object - a combination of data and the actions that can operate on that data
- Objects can 'inherit' specific attributes from classes, making coding shorter
- Class - embodies all the information needed to create and manipulate objects of a particular type
- An attribute is a distinctive feature of a class, such as a car manufacturer
- A method is a function specific to that class
- Encapsulation
- Making certain attributes of a class private, but others are open to view
- Accessor - A method which allows objects to see the private value
- A method which allows the attribute to be changed in value
- Object - a combination of data and the actions that can operate on that data
- 3 main constructs
Machine code
- An instruction is made of two componets;
- OPCODE
- Represents an instruction
- OPERAND
- Binary data
- OPCODE
- An instruction is made of two componets;
Assembly code
- Coded via mnemonics for OPCODES
- OPERANDS became decimal or hexadecimal values
