Lec 6 Conditional Probability ( slides
- Conditional Probabilities: the probability of X occurring, given that Y has already occurred.
General Conditional Probability:
- If the events X and Y are independent, then the conditional probability will be the same as the probability of observing the event X.
the joint probability table
- Discuss: What is the probability that a train was taken, given that the observation was a woman? Ie P(Train | Woman)? Write the probability equation for this, then calculate the answer. P(Train | Woman) = P(T ^ W) / P(W) = .067/.529 = .127
