1. Algorithm : sets of clearly defined rules to process data

   • If a question in a test asks for a written algorithm then : you can do EITHER a PSEUDOCODE or a FLOWCHART. It makes no difference.

2. Flowcharts

       • This shape is called a terminator
     • inputs / outputs
     • Process
       • used when there is an instruction that must be carried out
     • Decision
   • shows the order in which a series of events is to be carried out

3. Pseudocode

   • Method of writing set of instructions for a computer program using plain English
   • Common Pseudocode Commands
     • Input
       • indicates a user will be inputting
     • Output
       • indicates that an output will appear on the screen
     • While
       • loop
         • A method used in programming to repeat a set of instructions.
     • For
       • counting loop
     • Repeat - Until
       • loop (iteration) that has a condition at the end
         • single pass through a set of instructions.
     • If - Then - Else
       • decision (selection) in which a choice is made
         • A decision within a computer program when the program decides to move on based on the results of an event.
