1. chernobyl

   • on the 26th April 1986, one of the four nuclear reactors exploded in the nuclear power plant. the disaster released 100x more radiation than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. survival rates are high and there have only been 15 cases of death but certain sources say that there may be 60,000 cases of diseases among 270,000 cases of cancer
   • due to the radiation there have been many cases of mutated animals as the radiation can cause cells inside your body to mutate and also change your DNA. this has caused animals to be mutated with six legs.

2. the structure of an atom

   • the nucleus of an atom is made of protons and neutrons and have an shells containing electrons
   • the electrons have a negative charge, neutrons have a neutral charge and protons have a positive charge
   • each atom has a atomic number and atomic mass
     • the atomic number tells us how many protons and electrons there are
     • atomic mass is the number of protons and neutrons together

3. isotopes

   • isotopes are an atom with the same amount of protons and electrons but has a different number of neutrons. the atomic number stays the same but the atomic mass changes.
     • oxygen normally has an atomic mass of 16 but if it was an isotope it will have 17+ atomic mass.
