Lesson Planning

  1. Accomodate

    • Make a variety of student groupings available
      • Allows for constant and varied feedback
      • Students can see what other students do to self-check
    • Give one instruction at a time
      • Steps can easily be written down to ensure students know where we're going and what they are expected to complete at each stage
    • Calculators are tools that people use to reach the beautiful math beyond computations - Use them as such.
    • Time is a dependent variable not independent
  2. Instruction

    • Include all types of teaching methods. (i.e. Auditory, Visual, Kinesthetic)
    • Should be sparse unless necessary
      • Send them on a path to discover content
  3. Manipulatives

    • Hands on -> Minds on
      • Games to teach
        • Conceptual learning rather than factual - benefits students who are struggling with math due to anxiety or conditions like dyscalculia
      • Let students explore the content and make learning intuitive
