1. solid state

   • advantages
     • Exreamly portable
     • Durable
   • disadvantages
     • Can be expensive
     • May not have as much storage as others

2. optical

   • advantages
     • Media is very portable
     • It is inexpensive
     • It is immune to magnetic fields
   • disadvantages
     • The media is not as robust as magnetic or solid state
     • It is slower to write to than other types of media
     • the cost would be prohibitive for storing terabytes of data.

3. magnetic

   • advantages
     • Huge storage capacity
     • Cheapest out of the three
     • Data can be stored for a long period of time
   • disadvantages
     • Magnetic fields can corrupt /damage the stored data
     • Not as portable as others
     • It is slower to access data
