Map content

secondary storage

  1. optical storage

    • Blu-Ray
    • DVDs
    • CDs
    • Optical storage is not very durable therefore it can scratch and break quite easily.
    • In comparison you should use solid state because, it is durable which means it wont break as easy.
  2. Its non-volatile storage. It is needed in a computer system to store your programs, operating system and files.

    • Non-volatile means that the data is not deleted when the computer system has no power connected to it.
  3. Solid state (flash) storage

    • microchips
    • magnetised disks
    • Solid state (flash) storage is the most durable
    • solid state (falsh) is less cost effective and it has a slower read and write speed compare to magnetic
  4. magnetic storage

    • floppy disk
    • hard disk
    • High capacity (stores a lot of data) compared to optical storage
    • Not as durable due to it having moving parts
