Robust Programs

  1. Software

    • Software must be maintainable; able to be updated after release and must be easy to understand, using comments & indents.
    • There are 2 types of test; Iterative (as you go) and Terminal (final).
      • Iterative happens during development, making it easier to debug programs.
      • Terminal happens at the end of the development cycle. It is a designed test that often tests every module in every way (Normal, Extreme & Erroneous).
  2. Test Data

    • There are 3 types of Test Data. Normal, Extreme and Erroneous.
      • Normal; correct data. For example, in a range of 1 to 5, 3.
      • Extreme; correct data bordering the range of acceptability. For example, in a range of 1 to 5, 1 or 5.
      • Erroneous; incorrect data. For example, in a range of 1 to 5, 0 or 6.
  3. Errors

    • There are 3 types of Error. Runtime, Syntax & Logic.
      • Runtime;
  4. Data Validation/Verification

    • Data Validation; checks data is sensible rather than correct. For example, in range.
    • Data Verification; checks data is accurate. For example, presence checks or confirmation.
