Programming Language

  1. IDE (Integrated Development Environment)

    • Tree
      • Translators (Compiler and Interpreter)
        • The Translators convert the high level language (Python) into a low level language (Binary)
      • Run time environment
        • Run time environment always allow you to run and test you code.
      • Editor
        • Editor allows you to write your code and it color codes your code to make it easier to understand
      • Error Diagnostics
        • Helps you with debugging by telling you where to keep your syntax error and what it is.
      • Translator
        • Translates the source code into machine code.
        • Compiler
          • The compiler translates the source code into machine code all at once, this takes a long time and creates an executable file
        • Interpreter
          • The interpreter Translates source code into machine code line by line this is much quicker than the compiler
        • Assembler
          • The assembler translates assembly language into machine code to be understood by the CPU
  2. High level languages

    • Python, Scratch, Java, Javascript
    • A high level language is a coding language made to be understood by humans not machines
  3. Low Level Languages

    • Machine code, also known as binary, is code that is made to be understood by a CPU and is difficult to read if you aren't a CPU
    • Assembly code is a code that is made up of mnemonics that are personalised by to be understood by different CPU's
    • A Low Level Language is a coding language that is made to be understood by a CPU and is usually translated into binary which is the lowest form of code.
  4. An advantage of using high level language compared to low level language means that it is more portable because it can be translated to the CPU's version of low level code.

  5. An advantage of using a interpreter over a compiler is that an interpreter takes less time to translate the source code into machine code and it does this line by line. this means you can save time, whereas the compiler trans source code all at once which takes a long time, this means if you need to be quick to translate you should use an interpreter
