Programming Language

  1. Integrated Development Environment (IDE)

    • The TREE
      • Translator
        • Assembler
          • Needed to either compile or interpret the source code so that the computer(CPU) can understand it
        • Interpreter
          • Translates source code into machine code one line at a time and does not create an executable file
          • The interpreter will return the first error it finds and then stop with is useful of debugging
        • Compiler
          • Translates the entire source code into machine code at the same time and create one executable file
            • Returns a list of errors for the entire program once compiling is complete
      • Editor
        • Is the main part of an IDE, its where the code is written.
        • Most code editor will have a line number and auto-colour coding for thing like string, function, loop, variables and comments. Good code editor will also have other automatic features like auto-correct, auto-indentation and auto-complete
      • Run Time Environment
        • Allows you to run and test your code when developing your program..
        • It can also help to identify logic error in the program as the programmer can see witch part of the code is running when error occor.
      • Error Diagnostics
        • Helps debugging the program by telling us were the error is and what is wrong with the line. Often suggest ways to fix it.
  2. High level languages

    • A programming language designed to be understood by humans
    • Example are Python, Scratch and JavaScript
    • It is portable and can be used on other machines (computers)
  3. Low level language

    • A programming language designed to be understood by computers
    • For example machine code (Binary) and assembly language
      • In assembly language command words which are used in assembly language. For example "Little Man Computer" used mnemonics such as "LDA","DAT","ADD" AND "OUT".
