RAM and ROM

Map content
RAM and ROM
ROM
- Read only memory
- Mainly used for firmware or other things that don't require many updates.
- Used in computing in places where files wont have to be altered very much
- Read only memory
RAM
- Random access memory
- Used to run everything from the OS to programs on the computer
- Random access memory
The difference between RAM and ROM is that ROM is read only. RAM can be randomly accessed by the computer to store values and data
The reason we need ROM in a computer is because its a cheaper component than RAM. ROM is used in firmware, as files don't have to be modified.
We need RAM so that the operating system and programs can concurrently store data and values. RAM can be written and overwritten, so RAM doesn't run out.
