Coordinate Geometry
Propounded by: Rene Descartes
Definition: System of locating a point on a plane with the help of two axes- x axis or abscissa and y axis or ordinate
- The two axes are actually two lines perpendicular to each other
- The point at which the two lines or axes intersect is called oigin
- The coordinates of origin is (0,0)
- The point at which the two lines or axes intersect is called oigin
- The cartesian system consists of 4 parts formed by the intersection of the two axes. these 4 parts are called quadrants
- the coordinates of a point are of the form (+,+) in the first quadrant, (-,+) in the second quadrant, (-,-) in the third quadrant and (+,-) in the fourth quadrant, where + denotes a positive real number and - denotes a negative real number.
- The two axes are actually two lines perpendicular to each other
Cartesian System (named in Descartes' honour)
