Secondary Storage
- types of secondary Devices include
- Megnetic Hard Drive
- The hard disk is the main storage device in your computer. The hard disk contains lots of metal platters which have been coated with a special magnetic material which the data will be stored in, in order to access the data the platters must spin over a thousand times a second.
- Optical Disk
- A CD can hold around 650mb of data, Compact disk can come in two main formats CD-ROM and CD-RW. CD-ROM means the CD is read only disk, Also the data on the disk can only be written once. CD-RW means the disk is rewriteable and you can save the data on the disk over and over again, But they are more expensive than the CD-ROM and flash.
- Magnetic Tape
- Magnetic tape can hold up to one terabyte of uncompressed data, Magnetic tape uses serial access to find a piece of data which means to find a pacific piece of data it has to start at the beginning of the tape which can take a long time.
- Solid State Memory (Flash Memory)
- Megnetic Hard Drive
- types of secondary Devices include
The CPU
- The CPU is the core of every computer system and has tree main component - The Control Unit, The arithmetic and logic unit, The immediate access store or registers.
- Arithmetic Part
- This performs the calculations on the data.
- Logic Part
- This deals with logic and comparisons
- Control Unit
- Controls data moving through the processor
- Processor
- Directs the system to carry out program instuctions. It also does the fetching, decoding and managing of instructions
- Arithmetic Part
- The CPU is the core of every computer system and has tree main component - The Control Unit, The arithmetic and logic unit, The immediate access store or registers.
