1. NON INTIMATE

   • can be taken by police.
   • Finger Prints; police will try get permission.
     • NO CONSENT = police MAY use reas. force.

2. INTIMATE

   • taken by doctor/nurse.
   • Sample only taken where there is reas. grounds for suspecting involvement in an offence.
     • The sample may then be checked against info held on other crimes.

3. GENERAL

   • E.g. woman arrested for drink driving and had a DNA sample taken.
     • When checked against database it was found to be a close match of a rape suspect.
   • samples can be kept on database even if not convicted.

4. FINGER PRINTING

   • Away from station
     • Can take finger prints away from station to check against National Automated Identification system quickly.
       • Used where
         • Officer has reason S. is/attempted commit a crime.
         • Officer doubts identity.
   • At station
     • Police will ask S. to agree. may use reas. force to get it.
