1. features of white adipocytes

   • large spherical cells, unilocular
   • flattened nucleus on one side
   • thin cytoplasm around the droplet, thick cytoplasm around nucleus
   • around nucleus : several mitochondria, golgi, polyribosomes and poor developed RER
   • in the thin cytoplasm there are well developed SER & pinocytotic vesicles
   • droplets surrounded by Vimentin intermediate filement
   • The cell is surrounded by thin basal lamina

2. Clinical aspects of WAT

   • secrete the hormone Leptin ( Satiety Factor)
   • secrete inflammatory factors
   • Adiponectin is released by adipocytes
   • Visceral & Subcutaneous WAT have different Gene expression
   • at birth, fat stores are already formed , distribution and density vary with age and gender
   • obesity in adults is Hypertrophic
   • obesity in children could be hyperplastic
