Function
The function of my product will be to store various cosmetics and products. This will make these items easily accessed and will keep them orgainised.
The product will have different areas forr different sizes of cosmetic bottles.
Form
My product will take the form of an enclosed shelf. It will be wall mounted and have have different sections for the storage of different items.
The product will be suitably sized for a small ensuite.
User Requirements
I myself am the target user for the product that I am creating. for the bathroom cabinet i am creating i requre it to be:
Wall mounted to reduce the space that is required for in in a small ensuite.
Suitably sized to store the cosmetics and products i intend to use it for.
Sustainability
Manufactured board: this would a very sustainable material from which to make my product as many types are recycled
Softwood: these are much less expensive to buy as they grow much more quickly, therefore they are a much more sustainable source for my product.
Hardwood: this is not a very sustainable soure as hardwood trees take a long time to grow.
Materials and Components
Wood
Hardwood
A hardwood could be a much better choise for a bathroom setting as it is slightly more water resistant than various other woods.
Hardwoods however are prone to warping, some contain acid which can corrode steel whice could damadge any hindges or handles in the product.
Softwood
The benefits of using a soft wood are that it has a nice colour and grain pattern and it grows quickly, it is also light weight.
However softwood is prone to warping an knots can fall out and leave holes, taking away from the over all look of the product.
Manufactured boards
However the majoraty of hardwoods are not good around water and soak a lot of it up and some types of manufactured board are not very strong and often
Manufactured boards could be an inexpensive alternative and canbe laminated and are plywood is good around water.
Performance requirements
Able to store bottles and jars and heave them easily accesed.
Have suitable areas for the storage of hairdryers, straightners etc.
Able to be mounted on a wall to save space. the wall on which I intend to put the product is m wide and so the product will have to fit this.
