Computer Security
Firewall
- Firewalls are used as a device protector as well as anti-virus.
- Firewall's are multi-layered programs that are hard to break through due to needing to hack/ get passed every wall to get to the source.
- They are normally used to protect businesses from hackers to hide their bank details and personal files
- a firewall is used to control which data packets can be sent or received to avoid viruses or hackers.
- Firewall is important because it helps block sites that way give you viruses, meaning some games you may want to play could contain these viruses when opened.
Anti-Virus
- Antivirus scans your computer periodically while you use it to always be alert that your device is safe.
- It detects any viruses that may be trying to enter or has hacked your computer.
- it whips the viruses so they can't do any harm to your software or steel any personal information.
- Antivirus should always be used on files and games to avoid accidentally opening a virus.
- It need regular updates to keep in time with your devices changes and downloads.
- Antivirus is what clears the viruses that have been sent to quarantine in order that they don't break through or cause any harm
Passwords
- They can be used to protect any device from being hacked or opened.
- The more long and complicated passwords are the harder they are to break/de-code.
- Passwords protect your personal data and keep your devices safe from hackers.
- when entering your online data it is important that you delete or info/ passwords after to avoid your data from always being out there.
- Giving passwords away will lead to your accounts such as bank and business being hacked and cleared, meaning you should never give them away in order to keep you and your data safe.
Encryption
- Ciphers are used to de-code encryptions.
- Encryptions are used to hide secret messages through code.
- Encryptions are used a bit like passwords but can be de-coded, un like passwords which have to be known to open.
- Many products need to be de-crypted, for example wifi passwords and codes.
- Encryptions are very important because with out a key, it locks.
- Encryption's can be de-crypted by finding a key that matches it. Codes can also be used periodically to make them harder
- A cypher is the sequence that tells you what to use and what the code means, i.e 1=a, 2=h, 3=y, this sequence can also be known as the key of breaking the code.
Malware
- quarantine is when a virus is detected and is isolated (taken away) from your computer's data so they cannot cause harm before they are cleared.
- Malware is when you download a data packet from a website without having an anti-virus and it spreads the virus over your data. The anti-virus then sends it to quarantine to be isolated.
- Data packets are what your computer sends and receives to get the download you click on's information to make or add those changes to your computer.
Phishing and Scams
- Scams are when a dishonest deal is made between a person and an invalid group/company, ex, if someone were to be told that in order to receive a free gift they had to enter in their card details or passwords, which would then be taken and used to the scammers wishes
- Phishing is when you receive an email or any other message that will try to reveal personal info, such as card details and passwords
- To avoid being scammed by phishing make sure to be aware of sites or emails that aren't trusted by your antivirus or make sure when you give in any details that the site or email is trusted, you can do this by searching the name of the reputable company and seeing if it it safe or not
