1. Sound

   • Described by metadata
   • The data stored includes audio codec and sample rate
   • Analogue- continuously varying
   • Sample interval - to describe sample rate and time between samples being taken
     • Sound is sampled at a low rate:
       • Very few samples are taken
       • Poor match between original and sample
       • Small file size is required

2. Data models

   • Flat file database
     • Simplest model
     • Each row is called a record
     • Column is called field
   • Hierarchical database
     • Useful when making an inventory
   • Relational Database
     • Most useful model
     • Most common type of database
     • Store data is separate tables
     • Each table is linked by a relationship
     • Each table contains data about an entity

   • Create database applications
   • Protect data
   • Run queries to extract data
   • Keep data consistent
   • Keep data accurate
   • Database management system
     • Looks after a database
