To say hello, you say "ni3 hao3". Literally, this means "you good". In the case of a 3 + 3 tone pair, such as ni3 hao3, the pair changes to 2 + 3.

Continuing with introduction, the word for "I" is "wo3" and the word for "am" is "shi4". To say, "I am..." you say "wo3 shi4". Shi4 is the word for "to be".

Quick rule about verbs: they don't conjugate. So the verb "shi4" means am, are, is, was, to be, etc.
