How to arrange electron in the atom

When arranging electrons in atoms, they are sorted into different orbitals.

The S orbital contains 2 electrons, the P orbital contains 6 electrons and the D orbital contains 10 electrons. For a full list, click here.

n=1: \(1S_{2}\)

You fill the orbitals up shell by shell, starting with n=1:

BE CAREFUL!!

There are some exceptions!

n=3: \(3S_{2}\), \(3P_{6}\), \(4S_{2}\), \(3D_{10}\)

n=2: \(2S_{2}\), \(3P_{6}\)
