Procedural Decomposition
- the act of breaking down a problem into smaller, more manageable problems.
- Each sub-problem can be further subdivided until each one accomplishes an identifiable task
Representational Abstraction - removes unnecessary details to simplify the problem
Abstraction by Generalisation - grouping by common characteristics
- there is a hierarchical relationship between the types
- certain types do not exist as they are too general

Page 2
Rather than having to define everything you only need to define what is unique
Procedural Abstraction
Obtaining a computational method be all the values used in any particular computation
- algebra is a form of procedural abstraction
Functional Abstraction
Removes the procedure and does a task that can be used for a broad range of tasks
Composition Abstraction
uses a combination of procedures and functions to create something more complex

Why does Abstraction help?
It allows us to hide functionality that is not needed
Representational Abstraction removes parts of the problem that aren't needed
Abstraction by generalisation removes parts of the problem that are already solved by more general solutions
Procedural + functional Abstraction hides parts o the the solution hat have already been solved
