VOLCANIC HOTSPOTS:
Volcanoes do not always necessarily occur along plate boundaries e.g. the island nation of Hawaii is relatively far away from any plate boundaries and yet it is home to numerous active volcanoes, such as Mauna Loa. These volcanoes are thought to have been formed by large magma basins beneath the Earth's surface, which allowed magma to rise up and erupt to form volcanoes.
