Unit Six

Key Concepts

- you can

rewrite a quadratic relation of the form ax²+bx+c by completing the square to

make it a(x-h)²

- completing

the square allows you to find the maximum/minimum point of a quadratic relation

(vertex)

-if two

factors have a product of zero, then one or both of the factors must equal zero

-the

solutions to a quadratic equation are also known as the roots of the equation

- you can use

the x-intercepts to find the vertex (axis of symmetry, plug point into original

equation)

-The

quadratic formula is: x = [ -b ±

√(b2-4ac) ] / 2a

- the x-coordinate of the vertex of a parabola is –b/2a (which

is also the formula for the axis of symmetry)
