• Marjane’s maid, Mehri pretended to be her sister because she fell in love with the guy across from her
• Mehri’s real sister also fell in love with him and decided to tell her boss, marjane’s uncle, who eventually told the dad
• The Dad approached the guy across and told him the truth, making him give back all the letter and forgetting about Mehri all together.
• Themes identified
• Showing that people from different social groups could not be together, Mehri, of a lower social class was marginalised and silenced as she was the maid and couldn’t read or write.

• After the Shah left, the political prisoners were liberated, Marjane knew 2 men one was a revolutionist and one of was a revolutionist whose profession was a journalist.
• Both were imprisoned for over 6-8 years their political conviction was communist.
• They had their nails ripped off, electrocuting them, families thought they were dead etc.
• Themes identified
• Showing that revolutionists in the books were silenced and excluded by imprisoning them and torturing them. No chance for changing or like doing their time and moving on was given.

• After most of Marjane’s family fled the country to USA, one by one, the political prisoners that Marjane’s family knew were killed.
• Uncle Anoosh was arrested and then executed

• Showing that all the former revolutionaries became the sworn enemies of the republic.
• Caption: When her parents lied to her saying that he's gone on a trip. But the next scene they tell her that he can have 1 visitor and she goes and meets him.
