CASE STUDY: GRAND CAYMAN
"Describe the ways in which coastal areas can provide opportunities for the people who live there." [7]
In Grand Cayman, many opportunities have been provided for the local people. Ports such as the George Town port ensure a source of goods for the people. They also help to establish trade routes with other countries, which bring in revenue and boosts the local economy. Many employment opportunities are also created, such as Bayshore Mall. This creates jobs for locals and raises the GDP of Cayman. Many diving opportunities are created by companies such as Sunset House, which serve as recreation and tourist opportunities for locals. Revenue from this tourism helps grow the local economy and provides the government with the means for starting projects that benefit society. Additionally, the quality of the services in the area will be good because of tourism - such as Diamonds International - so the locals will also benefit from these better quality services. Recreational fishing and sailing opportunities are made which provide leisure and food opportunities, like fishing in South Sound. People make a living from this, shown by the fish market in George Town, increasing income and raising their quality of life.
