Flashcards
Computing
Cards in this deck (13)
- 1What is the definition of a computer system?A basic and complete set of hardware and software combined to implement the computer performance.
- 2What is the purpose of the CPU?It processes data and instructions and controls the rest of the computer.
- 3What happens during the FDE cycle? The instructions are fetched from the RAM, decoded and executed by the CPU.
- 4What are the three C's?Cores, Cache and clock speed.
- 5What is the definition of cores? It is a processing unit within the CPU.
- 6What is the definition of cache? It holds frequently used data and instructions so that it is ready as soon as the CPU needs it.
- 7What is the definition of clock speed? The measure of how quickly a CPU can process instructions.
3.5 clock speed=3.5 billion cycles a second. - 8What are the five different components of the CPU?Arithmetic Logic Unit(ALU),
Control Unit, Registers, Buses and clock. - 9What does the ALU do?It manages all arithmetic like operations and is the calculator of the CPU.
- 10What does the Control Unit do ?It manages instructions for all the other components and is in charge of them .It controls the other components.
- 11What do the registers do?They are very small ,very quick memory locations inside the CPU. It stores the different types: MAR, MDR ,CIR ,PC and Acc.
- 12What are the buses? They are a set of parallel wires that transport data between components. It stores data going between components.
- 13What does the clock do?It manages the number of cycles carried out per second. It also synchronises the other components.
