About Acting and Performance Skills
GoConqr OriginalWhat this page covers
This page is mostly mind maps. They cover acting methods, character work, voice and movement. Alongside them sit a few quizzes, flashcard decks, notes and slide sets, all made by GoConqr users rather than by GoConqr itself.
Where to begin
Start with the method maps. The Constantin Stanislavski map gives a short life story and the technique that grew from it. The Guidelines for Actors Preparing Scenes map turns ideas into working principles, such as identifying with your character and not being predictable.
Then look at the notes on other approaches, including Adler, Meisner, Strasberg and Practical Aesthetics. Reading them side by side helps you see how the methods differ.
Character, voice and body
- The Monologue Voice Map asks what your character is like, how they look and which story lines they are in.
- The Ballet Shoes-Object Monologue map shows how movement, energy and mood can be planned.
- The Ted Hits Albert map breaks a scene into physical skills, vocal skills, posture and gesture.
- The Vocal Block Test One flashcards ask about neutral posture, warm-ups and voice terms.
- The TYPES OF CLOWNS map is useful if you want to explore clowning.
Using quizzes and maps together
Read a map first, then test yourself. The Drama quiz asks about plots, stage directions and playwrights. Vocal Warm Ups and Les Miserables pairs well with the voice flashcards. If you miss an answer, go back to the matching map and add a note of your own.
Some maps are written for GCSE Drama work, so they suit students preparing a performance or written answers. A few maps are personal rehearsal diaries, which show how other performers reflect on their work.
Where it sits
This unit belongs to the strand Acting, Rehearsal and Devising in the subject Performing arts (theatre, dance). Pick one map today, then make a flashcard deck from it.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
The Constantin Stanislavski mind map is a good first stop, because it explains the performance technique many later approaches build on. After that, try the Guidelines for Actors Preparing Scenes map for practical principles, then the Drama quiz to see what stuck.
What do the mind maps cover?
There are over 60 of them. They cover acting methods such as Hagen's technique and Practical Aesthetics, character building, monologues, voice, movement, clowning history and rehearsal diaries. Some also support GCSE Drama questions, so you can choose by technique or by task.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr, so styles and depth vary from one resource to the next. Read a few before you decide which suits you.
Which levels and exams do these suit?
The mix leans toward school students, with university students and professional candidates also represented. Teachers can use the maps as ready-made material. One exam is mentioned in the listed resources: GCSE Drama, which appears in several of the maps.
Are there resources for voice work?
Yes. Look at the Vocal Block Test One flashcards, the Aspects Of Voice & Their Definitions deck, the Types of Diaphragmatic Breathing deck and the THE VOICE RESONANCE slides. The Vocal Warm Ups and Les Miserables quiz lets you check what you have learned.
What if I cannot find the topic I need?
Try a nearby map, such as Acting techniques, Character Analysis or Movement, as these cover wide ground. You can also make your own mind map, flashcards or notes on the missing topic. A free account lets you save scores and build your own.
