Which side of the heart deals with oxygenated blood? The left hand side of the heart is oxygenated, the right is deoxygenated.
What is the structure of the atria? - Thin walled - elastic(stretches when blood is collected) -Thin muscular wall only needs to pump blood short distance to ventricle
What is the structure of the ventricle? - Much thicker muscular wall because it has to pump blood a long distance, either to the lungs or the rest of the body
What is the difference in structure of the right and left ventricle? - The right ventricle only has to pump blood to the lungs which is a short distance so it has a thinner muscular wall than the left ventricle - The left ventricle has a much thicker muscular wall so it can create enough pressure to pump blood to the rest of the body
What are the valves between the atria and ventricles called? - The valve on the right hand side is called the tricuspid valve and the one on the left is the bicuspid valve
What are the roles of the ventricles and veins? - The ventricles pump blood away from the heart and into the arteries. - The veins pump blood into the heart and into the atria
Describe the vessels connected to the left hand side of the heart - Aorta connected to the LV pumps O blood to the body - Pulmonary vein connected to the LA brings O blood from the lungs
Describe the vessels connected to the right hand side of the heart - Vena cava connected to the RA brings dO blood from body. - Pulmonary artery connected to RV takes dO blood to lungs
What is the name of the blood vessel that supplies the heart muscle with oxygenated blood? The coronary arteries supply the heart with oxygenated blood, they branch off of the aorta into two main arteries covering all of the heart.
What are the periods of contraction and relaxation called? Systole- contraction diastole- relaxation
