Fichas del conjunto (19)
- 1What is internal reliability?Whether a measure is consistent within itself.
- 2What is external reliability?Whether a measure would produce similar results in similar circumstances.
- 3Assessing external reliability: What is inter-rater reliability? Two or more observers rate the same behaviour to ensure that observations are not subjective. If the ratings are correlated then the measure is reliable.
- 4Assessing external reliability: What is test-retest?Repeating the same test twice, if the two sets of results correlate well then the measure is reliable.
- 5Assessing internal reliability: What is split-half?Randomly choosing half the questions on the test and comparing the results with the other half, if the two halves correlate well then the measure is reliable.
- 6What is internal validity?Whether findings are due to the manipulation of the independent variable and not another factor.
- 7What is face validity?Whether a measure appears on the surface to measure what it intends to measure.
- 8Types of internal validity: What is construct validity?Whether a measure measures the concept of behaviour it is designed to. E.g. does a questionnaire measure IQ.
- 9Type of criterion validity: What is concurrent validity? The extent to which the results and conclusions coincide with other studies and evidence.
- 10Types of internal validity: What is criterion validity?Whether a measure can predict a future outcome.
- 11What is external validity?Whether findings can be generalised beyond the study.
- 12Types of external validity: What is ecological validity? The extent to which findings of a study are able to be generalised to real-life settings.
- 13Types of external validity: What is population validity? The extent to which findings of a study can be generalised to similar and wider populations.
- 14What is representativeness? The extent to which behaviour accurately reflects the target population.
- 15What is generalisability? The extent to which findings from a study
can be generalised to real situations or populations. - 16What are demand characteristics? When participants are aware of what the experimenter expects to find or how participants are expected to behave.
- 17What is researcher/observer bias? When the researcher/observer knows the goals of the study or the hypotheses and allows this knowledge to influence their observations during the study.
- 18What is social desirability?(In self reports) the tendency of participants to answer questions in a manner that presents themselves in the best light to others.
- 19What are researcher/observer effects? When participants alter their behaviour when they are aware that a researcher/observer is present.
