Explain how the muscular skeletal and nervous system work together during plyometric exercises

  1. What is plyometric training?

    • Exercises in which muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time, with the goal of increasing power
    • uses eccentric and concentric contractions
  2. How is the stretch reflex involved

    • Stretch reflex is a muscle contraction in response to stretching within the muscle. It provides automatic regulation of skeletal muscle length
  3. How is the nervous system incorporated

    • Motor Unit
      • Muscle fibres are grouped into motor units. This consists of a motor neurone and its muscle fibres.
        • Works with the nervous system so that a contraction can occur.
      • Motor Neurones
        • Nerve cells which transmit the brain’s instructions as electrical impulses to the muscles
  4. Three phases.

    • Eccentric phase
    • Amortization phase
    • Concentric Phase
