Chapter 9: The Ponds
Walden Pond
- Sometimes blue, sometimes green
- not a lot of aquatic life
- provides water for Thoreau
- provides a place to wash dishes for the villagers
One day Thoreau finds tracks around the pond which he believes were made by hunters.
- According to an Indian legend, a hill sank and swallows up a group of hunters except one named Walden which is what the pond is named after.
Sandy Pond
- larger and more shallow, less pure, and has more fish then Walden Pond
- Thoreau finds the name boring and describes how the pond should be named from the animals that lived there and not the farmers who lived there
White Pond
- has the same features as Walden Pond
Goose Pond
- similar to Walden and much smaller with no boat and fish
