Performance
Clock speed
- What
- The speed of the fetch, execute and decode cycle
- Measured in Hertz
- How
- The faster the clock speed, the faster it takes for the CPU to reach RAM
- What
RAM
- What
- RAM is where all the instructions are stored
- How
- The greater the RAM, the more instructions and data can be stored while a program is running. This means the less instructions will be stored in the much slower virtual memory and will therefor improve the performance of the computer
- What
Core
- How
- A single thing running simultaniously
- How
Cache
- What
- Cache memory is a small amount of memory which is either inside the CPU or closer to the CPU then RAM
- Cache memory is faster then RAM and more expensive
- Cache memory stores frequently used instructions
- How
- If there is a large amount of cache memory storage, a greater number of frequently used instructions can be stored. This means that more instructions can be shared quickly, which will improve the performance of the computer.
