USER INTERFACES

1. Definition

   • The link between the user and the technology that they are using.
   • Involves both hardware and software

2. GUI

   • Graphical User Interface
   • Most common type of interface
   • Use icons to represent familiar tasks

3. Menu-Driven Interface

   • Users are restricted to a limited choice of actions
   • Originally, menus were chosen by entering a single number from a list
   • Touch screen now employed
   • Options are presented in a logical order

4. Command Line Interface

   • Uncommon with non-expert users
   • Difficult to learn and use than others
   • User types in text-based commands for the computer to execute
   • User has to know the commands beforehand

5. Natural Language Interface

   • Tries to match word user has entered to keywords
   • To communicate with an ICT system the same way you would communicate with a human
