1. Three Dimensions

   • Locus of Control
     • the cause of success or failure originates
       • external
         • factors within environment
       • Internal
         • factors within us
   • Stability
     • stable
       • some effect over time (not change)
     • unstable
       • change/different depend on situation
   • controlability
     • controlable
       • we can control causes
     • uncontrolable
       • we cannot control causes

2. Four Factors

   • Ability
     • A relatively internal and stable factor over which the learner does not exercise much control
   • Effort
     • internal and unstable factor over which the learner can exercise a great deal of control
   • Luck
     • external and unstable factor over which the learner exercises very little control
   • Task Difficulty
     • external and stable factor that is largely beyond the learner's cotrol
