1. Short term memory consists of three separate components

   • Central executive
   • Phonological loop
     • Phonological store
     • articulatory loop
   • Visuo-spatial sketchpad

2. Baddeley & Hitch

   • one group performed two visual tasks, another group performed one visual task and a verbal task
   • the second group did better
   • concludes that the STM is made up of several components working together

3. + supported by lab experiments

   • - lack of ecological validity in these experiments

4. + recognizes complexity of STM
