1. SHORT TERM MEMORY

   • CAPACITY: LESS THAN 7 CHUNKS
     • How much can be held in memory. Measured in bits of information such as numbers of digits.
   • DURATION: A FEW SECONDS
     • How long  a memory lasts before it's no longer available.
   • ENCODING: ACOUSTIC/VISUAL
     • How the information enters and is stored in the brain via the senses. Acoustic: Through sounds. Visual: Through pictures.

2. LONG TERM MEMORY

   • CAPACITY: POTENTIALLY UNLIMITED
     • How much can be held in memory. Measured in bits of information such as numbers of digits.
   • DURATION: 100 YEARS (UNLIMITED)
     • How long  a memory lasts before it's no longer available.
   • ENCODING: SEMANTIC
     • How the information enters and is stored in the brain via the senses. Semantic: Knowing and understanding the meaning.
