Photosysnthesis and plant growth
- For definations see flashcard set in the lesson.
- Plants need light, CO2 gas, water, warth, small amounts of minerals coming fromthe soil like phosfates
- Plants make their own food using the procces of photosynthesis
- the food we talk about is glucose made by the chemical recation of photosysnthesis.
- BUT HOW DO THEY PHOTSYNTHESIS

-
- Plants contain a cell organalle called the chlroplast which contains the chlorophyll.
- Chlorophyll absorbs light. But why do they need light?
- Photosysnths is and endothermic reaction which means it needs external energy which is provided by the trapped light
- its like how british traped the slaves to work for the royals
- The reaction of 6CO2+6H2O→C6H12O6+6O2 is photosynthesis
- the words it is carbon dioxide+water(and presence of light and chlorophyll)= glucose(sugar more like plant food)+ oxygen
- CO2 is entered through the stomata which are placed under the leaf through diffusion.
- In the leaf the concentration of CO2 is lower than the surroundings and and the leaf has more O2 in it than the surrounding thus the gases move form higher concentration to lower concentration.
- the raw material for photosynthesis is CO2 AND H20 and not light this is because it is not a reactant
-
- The plant pallisade cell is placed of the upper section of the leaf to absorb the most amount of light. They contain Chroplasts.
- they also Include a sap vacuole which help the cell to hold its shape. this it becasue it contains water and if the plant goes dry the vacuole gets empty which ruins its shape as first it was pushing against the cell wall but now it is coming on the verge of compression.

-
- No no they do not carry blood the carry something much more important for the plant, Water and sugar.
- It contains 2 tubes 1 is xylem 1 the phloem
- Both are called a 'Vein'
- Xylem is a dead cell to form hollow tubes and are strengthend by lignin which is in the thck walls of the xylem tube
- Phloem is a tube which transfers sugars to all parts of the plant
-
- Transpiration is the loss of water through the stomata of the leaves. When the wate goes up the xylem to the leaves by the time they evapourate between the air spaces which leaves through the stomata. when it leaves it pulls more water to the leaf.
- GCSE Biology - Transport in plants - Translocation (Phloem) and Transpiration (Xylem) (Enclavar)
-

- Root hair cells are cells placed on the outer side of the root to absorb water from the soil.
- They have a large surface area which is specialized in absorbing more water and minerals
- These are directly connected to the Xylem tissue which then transfers it throughout the plant
-
- A carbohydrate is a mixture of carbon oxygen and hydrogen. Some small carbs are called sugars like glucose.
- Plants use glucose for aerobic respiration and making compounds along with minerals.
- Plants also creat a large carbohydrate called starch which they use to store energy. they use glucose to make starch to respirate at night when photosynthsys stops.
- We can test for starch using iodine solution which turn sbluw with starch. it can stain clothing ad sting ur eyes
