The Suffragettes (WSPU) Known as the WSPU (the Women's Social and Political Union). Founded in 1903 by Emmeline Pankhurst and daughters, Sylvia and Christabel. Much more radical than NUWSS - frustrated.
Suffragettes' Tactics Used direct action - thought it would make it a major issue and gain publicity. 1908 - smashed windows in Downing St., stopped in 1910 but re-continued in 1912 with arson and vandalism after the failure of the Conciliation Bill.
The Suffragettes: Emily Davison On 4 June 1913, Emily Wilding Davison threw herself in front of King George V's horse at the Epsom Derby and was severely injured, dying 4 days later. Davison had already bombed David Lloyd George's house earlier the same year.
