*Appearance vs Reality as Hamlet does not know whether to trust the ghost or not (by using juxtaposing language such as 'heaven and hell' and 'wicked and charitable'.
*Re-occuring theme of uncertainty in the character of Hamlet (just like the fact that he procrastinates the killing of Claudius throughout the whole play) - 3Line 90 (describing Denmark)Marcellus - "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark"
*This could be foreshadowing the impending deaths of the principle characters at the end of the play.
*This may be describing the new king and the actions he took to gain his title.
*'Rotten' - suffering from decay or something awful (Claudius)
