Question | Answer |
What is energy? | energy is the ability to do work; it is what is needed to make things happen |
What is the Law of Conservation of Energy? | Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed or transferred |
What is the formula for calculating energy efficiency? | Useful energy ÷ Total energy x 100 = % of Energy Effiency |
What types of energy does a battery have? | Chemical + Electrical |
What types of energy does an airplane have? | Gravitational + Kinetic |
What types of energy does a mobile phone have? | Chemical + Sound + Light + Heat + Electrical |
What types of energy does a lightbulb have? | Electrical + heat + light |
What are the parts of the energy rating label? | Energy efficiency star rating Energy consumption in kWh (kilowatt-hours) per year |
What is the energy rating label used for? | To show and compare the different models of the same size and capacity's energy consumption and energy efficiency which ensures you will get the most energy-efficient one or the one that costs less |
If there are 2 models of dishwashers that hold 200L, which one would be the best to purchase? If Model 1 consumed 872 kWh per year and Model 2 consumed 317 kWh per year, which would be the best purchase? | Model 2 would be the best purchase as it consumes less energy when compared to Model 1, which means that it will be cheaper to run. |
What do the arrows in an energy chain represent? | The arrows represent the direction of the flow of energy transformation or transfer |
What is useful and wasted energy for a lightbulb? | Useful = light Wasted = heat |
What is useful and wasted energy for a car engine? | Useful = mechanical Wasted = heat + sound |
What is useful and wasted energy for a laptop computer? | Useful = light + sound Wasted = heat |
What is useful and wasted energy for a microwave | Useful = heat Wasted = sound |
What is useful and wasted energy for a mobile phone? | Useful = light + sound Wasted = heat |
The energy input is what? And which side of the energy arrow does it go on? | The input energy is the total amount of energy. It goes on the back of the energy arrow. |
The energy output is what? And which side of the energy arrow does is go on? | The output energy is the useful and wasted energy. It goes on the front of the arrow. |
What is useful energy? | useful energy is energy that is used to perform the desired action |
What is wasted energy? | wasted energy is energy that is transferred to undesirable actions |
When doing an energy efficiency equation, how do you identify the useful energy and wasted energy? | When we see the total energy, that is immediately identified as the input energy. Once we see the energy that the device would use as useful energy, we make that the output energy. We then divide the total by the useful energy and multiply it by 100 which will then give us the % of energy efficiency. |
